About HourlyMath

HourlyMath exists because looking up simple money math online has gotten strangely unpleasant. Search "hourly to salary" and you'll wade through pages that make you scroll past three screens of ads, demand your email for a "detailed report," or bury the answer inside a 2,000-word article written for a search engine instead of a person.

We think a calculator should act like a calculator: numbers in, answer out, instantly, with the working shown. Every tool here computes as you type, right in your browser. Nothing you enter — not your salary, not your rates, not your business costs — is ever uploaded, stored, or seen by us. There's no account, no email capture, and no premium tier.

What's here

The calculators cover the money math of working life: converting between hourly wages and salaries, overtime and time-and-a-half pay, what a raise means per paycheck, what freelancers should charge, and the small-business essentials — margin, markup, and break-even. Each one explains its formula and the traps hiding in it, because the "why" is what makes the number useful.

Accuracy, and an honest limit

All results are gross (pre-tax) estimates for information only — not financial, tax, or legal advice. We deliberately avoid tax calculations: tax rules vary by state and change yearly, and a confident-but-stale tax number is worse than none. For decisions with real stakes, verify with a professional.

Who's behind this

HourlyMath is built and maintained by Dana Whitfield. I spent a long stretch doing hourly and freelance work — enough of it to get genuinely irritated every time I needed a quick wage or margin number and got a wall of ads and an email-capture pitch instead of an answer. So I started building the calculator I actually wanted, and it grew into this site.

I write, code, and fact-check every calculator here myself. If a formula's wrong or a source is stale, that's on me — and I'd genuinely like to know.
